December 12th – From Silos to Synergy: Leadership Strategies for Fostering Joint Work – Jenni Donohoo

Session Description: Joint work among teachers has the power to enhance collective efficacy and transform student learning, but it doesn’t happen by chance. This session empowers school leaders to intentionally create the conditions that allow joint work to flourish. In this interactive workshop, participants will explore practical strategies to foster an environment where meaningful collaboration becomes the norm. Drawing from

research and real-world examples, we’ll delve into the critical role leaders play in nurturing collective efficacy through joint work.

Big ideas include:

  • Fostering a growth mindset and collective efficacy beliefs
  • Promoting psychological safety and trust
  • Shifting from a culture of privacy to one of shared practice
  • Implementing protocols for more impactful collaboration
  • Establishing norms for using student evidence to guide discussions

Success Criteria:

Participants will be able to:

  • identify key indicators of successful joint work and methods to measure its impact
  • describe at least three leadership practices that foster joint work
  • identify protocols for effective team collaboration focused on joint work
  • outline a strategy for using student evidence to guide and focus collaborative efforts
  • develop a plan to foster psychological safety and trust within teacher teams

February 4th – Beyond Joint Work: Navigating Challenges to Effective Collaboration

Session Description: While joint work can revolutionize teacher collaboration, even the most well-intentioned efforts can face obstacles. This follow-up session explores common pitfalls in collaborative practice and strategies to overcome them, ensuring that your joint work efforts lead to lasting improvements in collective teacher efficacy and student outcomes.

 Success Criteria:

Participants will be able to:

  • identify common ‘enemies of efficacy’ that can undermine collaborative efforts
  • explore and describe strategies to overcome these challenges
  • learn techniques for monitoring and sustaining effective collaboration over time
  • develop action plans to address specific challenges in their own school contexts

 This session will equip school leaders with the knowledge and tools to not only implement joint work but to ensure its long-term success and impact. Participants will leave with practical strategies and protocols to enhance collective efficacy and overcome the obstacles that often derail well-intentioned collaborative efforts.
