1. Positive Behaviour Intervention Supports [PBIS] Summer Institute:

EECD, in partnership with the University of New Brunswick, is hosting a two-day summer institute July 16-18, 2024, at Salisbury Regional School, Salisbury, NB. The focus of these two days is Positive Behaviour Intervention and Supports (Anglophone K thru 12).

Presenters:

Keynote speakers Dr. Paul Gavoni and Anika Costa authors of Quick Responses for Reducing Misbehaviour and Suspensions.

Participants will receive a free copy of “Quick Responses for Reducing Misbehaviour and Suspensions.”

Specializing in coaching and organizational leadership, Dr. Paul “Paulie” Gavoni is a behaviour scientist who has worked in education, human services, and sports for over two decades. In this capacity, he has served the needs of children and adults in a variety of positions including COO, Vice-President, Director of School Improvement, Leadership Director, Professor, Assistant Principal, School Turnaround Manager, Clinical Coordinator, Therapist, Trainer, Coach, and Behaviour Analyst. Dr. Gavoni is passionate about implementing Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and Organizational Behaviour Management (OBM) strategies to help establish positive and engaging environments across industries to bring out the best in people. He is a board member of the Opioid Awareness Foundation and the World Behaviour Analysis Day Alliance.

Anika Costa is a Board-Certified Behaviour Analyst with over two decades of experience as a classroom teacher, adjunct faculty, trainer, coach, supervisor, mentor, and consultant in education and behavioural science. Anika is the founder and president of The Operant Teacher, LLC, a behaviour analytic consulting firm offering training, coaching, and instructional design services to individuals, groups, and organizations across educational, private, and community-based agencies. She has co-authored two best-selling books, QUICK Responses for Reducing Misbehaviour and Suspensions: A Behavioural Toolbox for Classroom and School Leaders, and QUICK Wins! Using Behaviour Science to Accelerate and Sustain School Improvement.

Who is this Professional Learning Opportunity For:

  • The PBIS Summer Insitute is open to anyone employed within the anglophone school districts, district office, or EECD (teachers, administrators, library workers, bus drivers, custodians, behaviour intervention mentors, educational assistants, etc).
  • Funding opportunities (as per EECD travel policies) are available to support anglophone (K-12) school district personnel, district office, and EECD employees (current and those starting a role in the 2024-2025 school year).
  • NB-EECD Summer Institute is limited to 200 participants.

2. University of New Brunswick ED 5063

Eligibility Criteria:

Participants attending the Summer Institute can apply for the University of New Brunswick course ED 5063. Enrolment is capped at 50.

UNB ED 5063 – PBIS Current Issues and Solutions: continue your PBIS exploration journey post-summer institute. In this course, you will learn how Positive Behaviour Intervention Supports [PBIS] practices in the K-12 anglophone public education system impact the design, development, and implementation of an inclusive and positive learning and working environment.

UNB ED 5063 is a three credit hour course.

How to Access:

To register for ED 5063, apply to UNB as a non-degree student (www.unb.ca/apply). Course registration is limited to 50 participants. As a non-degree student, go to the student portal (my.unb.ca) and place yourself on the ED 5063 waitlist, under student planning and registration.

Proof of enrolment and completion of the course will be required for partial reimbursement (50%) of tuition and application fee for eligible employees of the anglophone school districts, district office, and EECD.
