Youth Mental Health Symposium

Overview
In celebration of Mental Health Month, The Center of Excellence for Health (EECD) is hosting a Youth Mental Health Symposium on May 15th, 2024 at the WU Center in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
Students from all high schools in the province can attend the event.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from keynote speakers as well as participate in student-centred breakout sessions covering such topics as positive mental health, eco-anxiety, mindfulness, stress management, resilience, career planning, and self-regulatory techniques and exercises.
In preparation for the Symposium, the COE Health (EECD) met with students, representing all four Anglophone School Districts. Discussions focused on mental health and interests in their schools, practices for developing and maintaining positive mental health, areas of concern, and topics they believe would be of most benefit to high school students. Data derived from this focus group, and the New Brunswick Mental Health Check-in, confirms the themes identified in the World Health Organization 2022 World Mental Health Report and will be used to inform the planning and organization of the symposium.
The Center of Excellence for Health (EECD) is grateful for the collaborative efforts with their professional partners in Health and Social Development, and for their primary community partner RBC, for helping us provide this valuable growth opportunity for high school students.
